KHU CÔNG NGHIỆP NAM CẦU KIỀN //dyvso.com/en/solar-power-to-be-purchased-through-energy-storage-systems/ //dyvso.com/en/solar-power-to-be-purchased-through-energy-storage-systems/#respond Sat, 22 Jun 2024 16:25:00 +0000 //dyvso.com/?p=33347 Following numerous discussions on solar power development mechanisms in Vietnam, a recent focal point of interest for citizens and businesses is Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha’s proposal for policy drafters to calculate the pricing mechanism for electricity bought from energy storage systems.

Installing solar panels combined with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will help avoid wasting excess electricity during peak sunny periods, supplementing power during evenings. Importantly, storage batteries contribute to stabilizing the power grid, mitigating fluctuations due to weather conditions.

To encourage individuals and businesses to invest in storage batteries, experts suggest financial support policies, particularly researching appropriate pricing mechanisms for reselling electricity back when national grid demand peaks, especially in the evening.

Dual benefits of storage installation After multiple meetings on Vietnam’s solar power development mechanisms, the latest focus for citizens and businesses is Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha’s suggestion for policy drafters to calculate the pricing mechanism for buying electricity from storage systems.

Mr. Ha proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade study methods to incentivize and financially support individuals installing rooftop solar panels combined with energy storage devices for resale to the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) at peak rate times.

In discussions with Tuoi Tre about Vietnam’s new energy storage mechanism, businesses agree that regulations on installing storage devices are crucial, potentially mandatory for large-scale solar power plants to ensure grid stability.

Le Anh Vu, director of an energy company, notes that while storage costs have reduced, the initial investment in solar and storage systems is still considerable, making return on investment slower. Therefore, investing in storage for electricity resale to the national grid may not be effective without a pricing mechanism that values electricity from storage systems higher during peak hours.

Previously, electricity prices from solar systems were fixed, but now higher prices during peak hours are necessary to encourage businesses to store electricity during low-demand times and sell during high-demand periods. Only then will individuals feel confident investing in storage, according to Mr. Vu.

Similarly, Nguyen Thuy Ngan, SolarBK’s brand director, points out that despite business interest in storage, high costs and unclear policies have led to hesitancy.

Ngan emphasizes the need for supportive tax and fee policies to reduce installation costs, enabling businesses to confidently invest in storage.

Regulations needed for storage ratios in solar installations In an interview with Tuoi Tre, Pham Phuoc Binh, director of Bincon Corporation, states that integrating solar power with storage will address renewable energy instability issues, especially solar’s volatility.

He highlights that irregular power supply can strain EVN’s grid management, but storage batteries can alleviate some of these challenges. However, Binh stresses the importance of technical considerations for safe operation and rational investment.

Specifically, systems combining solar power with storage utilize integrated inverters with charging and programming systems optimized for solar radiation and grid interaction.

Therefore, existing solar power systems, already grid-connected, must calculate replacement costs, especially integrating new storage systems with higher capacities than new investment projects. Additionally, space considerations are crucial for safe installation, particularly ensuring fire safety.

Nguyen Van Tuan, director of a solar installation company in Ho Chi Minh City, views storage batteries as foundational for grid stability, providing backup power for EVN during electricity shortages, especially at night or during summer peaks.

To maintain system stability, Tuan recommends regulations requiring a suitable storage ratio (e.g., 10-20% of total installation capacity), ensuring consistent power supply even during adverse weather.

Cost of storage batteries

Responding to Tuoi Tre, Tran Thi Thu Van, SolaX Power’s national director, notes significant reductions in storage battery costs recently, making it feasible for individuals to invest under 100 million VND for systems with capacities around 6-7 kW.
Elva Wang, Southeast Asia director at Trina Solar, states that storage battery prices have dropped by 50% since last year, with common systems costing around $3,000 – $5,000 for 5 kW storage.

New electricity consumption record

On June 21st, the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) reported record highs in maximum capacity and daily electricity consumption nationwide for June, driven by increased demand during recent sunny periods.
Data from the National Power System Dispatch Center shows peak capacity reached 49,533 MW at 1:30 PM on June 19th, with total consumption on June 14th hitting 1.025 billion kWh nationwide.
EVN notes that without recent evening rain, record electricity consumption could have been even higher, placing significant strain on supply.

KHU CÔNG NGHIỆP NAM CẦU KIỀN //dyvso.com/en/shinec-acts-for-the-environment/ //dyvso.com/en/shinec-acts-for-the-environment/#respond Wed, 05 Jun 2024 09:29:28 +0000 //dyvso.com/?p=30676 World Environment Day on June 5, 2024, initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), focuses on “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.?/em>

UNEP calls on global nations to restore land, combat desertification, enhance drought resilience, slow climate change, protect nature, and improve livelihoods and food security for billions worldwide.

According to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, 40% of the planet’s land is degraded, affecting half the global population and threatening nearly half of the global GDP ($44 trillion). Drought frequency and duration have increased by 29% since 2000, potentially impacting over 75% of the world’s population by 2050 without urgent action. Land restoration is a primary goal of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), involving policies, initiatives, and global and regional cooperation mechanisms to protect and revive ecosystems to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

In line with combating climate change and restoring land, Shinec Joint Stock Company (Shinec) has continuously increased green land area in Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park (KCN). Currently, the green area ratio in KCN is 33%.

At the end of February 2024, Shinec launched the ?024 Tree Planting Festival,?planting nearly 1,000 various trees, including 15 banyan trees, 200 pink trumpet trees, 400 pomelo trees, and 400 mango trees. In 2024, to complete the entire green landscape in Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park and package the Nam Cau Kien Ecological Industrial Park product following ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) orientation, Shinec will plant over 3,000 various trees.

Water conservation is also an effective solution against desertification. All wastewater in Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park is treated and reused for purposes such as watering plants and cleaning roads.

To further improve water usage efficiency, water conservation, and aim for zero waste, on March 19, at the Vietnam-Netherlands business connection conference, Shinec signed a cooperation agreement with NX Filtration to conduct feasibility research on industrial wastewater reuse using hollow fiber nano filtration technology. The recovered water after filtration will be used for industrial purposes within the Industrial Park.

Mr. Pham Hong Diep, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shinec, represented the Company in signing a cooperation agreement with NX filtration

On May 23, at the Nam Cau Kien Ecological Industrial Park, Shinec cooperated with V-Leep II to organize an in-depth Net-Zero workshop for businesses operating in the industrial park.

This activity is the first step in the cooperation agreement between Shinec and the Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program II (V-LEEP II), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), signed on February 28, 2024. The workshop, with experts from V-Leep II, helped participants understand Net-Zero concepts, basic conditions of Net-Zero, the necessity of Net-Zero for businesses, and methods to achieve Net-Zero.

The workshop also provided a roadmap for greenhouse gas emission inventory and Net-Zero implementation according to the Vietnamese government’s regulations and a list of sectors and criteria for evaluating businesses required to conduct greenhouse gas emission inventory.

Experts from V-Leep II share information with businesses

Following the event, Shinec sent survey emails to businesses in Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park to conduct sharing sessions, support businesses in greenhouse gas emission inventory, and participate in the carbon credit market with Shinec. The aim is to achieve Zero emissions in Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park by 2030.

Businesses in Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park support and join Shinec in implementing environmental protection solutions, such as planting and caring for trees within their premises and complying with emission regulations by law.

Notably, Tan Thuan Phong Co., Ltd. is one of the three entities first licensed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to operate in hazardous waste treatment. In response to World Environment Day 2024, Tan Thuan Phong has implemented a process to treat sludge waste into light slag, creating a nutrient soil type for tree planting.

KHU CÔNG NGHIỆP NAM CẦU KIỀN //dyvso.com/en/vietnam-has-signed-and-concluded-negotiations-for-17-ftas/ //dyvso.com/en/vietnam-has-signed-and-concluded-negotiations-for-17-ftas/#respond Mon, 03 Jun 2024 04:17:29 +0000 //dyvso.com/?p=30223 Vietnam has now signed and basically concluded negotiations for 17 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with over 60 countries and territories. Additionally, the country is currently negotiating and preparing to start negotiations for three more FTAs and one economic framework.

Strong Recovery in Export Activities in the First Five Months of 2024

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam’s export activities continued to show a strong recovery in the first five months of 2024. The successful signing of FTAs with major global economies has significantly contributed to boosting Vietnam’s export activities in recent years.

In 2022, Vietnam’s total import and export turnover exceeded USD 730 billion for the first time, with exports reaching USD 371.3 billion. Despite the global trade slowdown in 2023, exports still reached nearly USD 355 billion.

In the first five months of this year, exports continued to recover, growing by 15.2% to USD 156.7 billion, an increase of USD 20.72 billion. This growth was largely driven by various measures to maximize opportunities from FTAs that Vietnam has signed.

Vietnam’s FTAs: An Overview

Vietnam has signed and basically concluded negotiations for 17 FTAs with over 60 countries and territories. The country is currently negotiating and preparing to start negotiations for three agreements and one economic framework (the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF)).

Exports to FTA partner countries account for about 65% of Vietnam’s total export turnover. In 2023, total export turnover enjoying preferential import taxes under FTAs exceeded USD 86 billion, up 9.2% from 2022, excluding exports to FTA partner markets that have eliminated tariffs to 0%.

Despite these achievements, the Ministry of Industry and Trade notes that the preferential export turnover under FTAs is still relatively low, and Vietnam’s exports still depend heavily on a few major markets.

Future Strategies and Goals

To address these challenges, Vietnam aims to continue exploiting and expanding export markets, maintaining and developing key and traditional markets, and effectively leveraging markets with FTAs (CPTPP, EVFTA, UKVFTA, etc.). Additionally, Vietnam plans to strengthen exploration of potential markets such as Russia, India, the Middle East, and Africa.

Vietnam will also focus on negotiating, signing, and implementing trade and economic agreements with potential partners and economies complementary to Vietnam’s economy to open new export opportunities.

Enhancing Competitiveness

To improve competitiveness, Vietnam needs to enhance the export capacity of key sectors such as processed and manufactured industrial goods, which regularly account for 85% of the country’s total export turnover, and agricultural, forestry, and fishery products, which currently contribute over USD 50 billion annually and are expected to continue growing rapidly in the coming years.
